Gorgar

THE MACHINE

About Gorgar

Prepare to face the beast! Gorgar holds a legendary place in history as the world’s first-ever “talking” pinball machine. With a vocabulary of seven words and a synthetic “heartbeat” sound that quickens as the action intensifies, this machine brought a terrifying new level of immersion to the arcade when it debuted in 1979.

Designed by Barry Oursler, the playfield is a dark fantasy masterpiece. Players must battle the demon by completing the G-O-R-G-A-R drop targets to increase the bonus multiplier and aiming for the “Snake Pit” to lock balls for a frantic 2-ball multiball. It is famously known on Pinside and Tilt Forums for its “mean” layout and challenging “Magnet” that can unpredictably snatch your ball mid-flight.

Why Play It?

Gorgar is a must-play for any pinball historian or fan of 70s retro-cool. Its haunting audio and classic “chisel-shot” gameplay offer a pure, high-stakes experience. When you hear that deep, robotic voice command, “GORGAR… SPEAKS,” you’ll know you’re in for a battle with a true arcade icon.

Come test your skills and see if you’re brave enough to challenge the demon and survive the wrath of Gorgar!

Rules

You can find the pinball machine rulesheet at this link:  https://rules.silverballmania.com/rules/G5zd6-MJVo4

You can find a summary of the rules below.

Main Objectives:

> Conquer the Demon: Spell G-O-R-G-A-R by hitting the corresponding targets to light the ‘Gorgar’ value.

> Slay the Snake: Complete the 1-2-3-4 pit targets to light the Snake Pit for Mystery scores and the Extra Ball.

> The Heartbeat: Increase the beating speed of the games audio by hitting targets, this serves as a psychological cue for the increasing bonus value.

Key Mechanics:

> The G-O-R-G-A-R Targets: Completing the sequence increases the Grogar Value and lights the Gorgar lamp at the centre eject hole.

> The Snake Pit: Located on the left side of the playfield are four drop targets numbered 1, 2, 3 and 4, completing the set lights the Snake Pit (eject hole) for a random Mystery score or the extra ball.

> Magnetised Pit: The centre left saucer is the ‘Pit’. If you shoot the ball into the pit when it is lit, you collect the current accumulated Pit Value.

> ABC Lanes: Located at the top of the playfield, completing all three increases your Bonus Multiplier.

> Lane Change: Pressing the right flipper moves the lit A-B-C lamps to help you complete the set more easily.
